Here’s an interesting combination: thumping house music with limited lyrics asking repeatedly, “do you think you’re better off alone?” At the time, it was a question I had been asking myself over and over again. Better Off Alone hid its message behind a dance track, and it helped me focus on the task at hand. Mind you, it still took me another almost 4 years to make the break, but it did it. In the trance I found confidence. And frankly, yes, I did think I’d be better off alone. And in retrospect, I was correct.
