A staple of seventies music, the Bee Gees were responsible for a million hits of their own as well as creating monster records for other recording artists, like yesterday’s golden gumdrop Emotion. And although I wore the grooves out (pun intended!) of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, it’s strange that my favorite of all Bee Gees songs isn’t from that album. It is, however, another in the defining disco swell. Presenting Tragedy. I feel like it actually belonged on the SNF soundtrack but somehow got axed. It’s such a good retrospective disco tune, but it was released amid the 'Death to Disco' era when I was sentenced to my wood-paneled bedroom in the Poconos. I didn’t actually enjoy it as much back then because it was hard to enjoy anything this good without being terrified of the bashing I’d get by brothers or by assholes at Pocono Mountain High School.
