Carole King music is classic and spellbinding. She wrote songs for other people that you never knew she wrote, but the ones she recorded for herself are timeless and unique. Take Will You Love Me Tomorrow; it’s the biggest hit by the Shirelles in the early sixties, but Carole recorded it for her Tapestry album, arguably one of the best cover to cover albums in Rock & Roll history, and it’s on my countdown because it reminds me of my sweet and beautiful mother. I wish I remembered more of the music Mom loved when she was young, but of all my childhood memories in the kitchen listening to WGBB, this song was something to which little Angie sang along. I vividly remember her big brown eyes as she wore her silly apron singing to me as I’d sit and have toast and tea for breakfast before school. What a wonderful place to which I’m transported when I hear this song. When Chris and I saw Beautiful on Broadway, I remember crying my eyes out when the actress sung this song. If only for one more moment to watch my adorable mom sing this to grade-school me.
