I don’t often talk about my brother Mike, but today’s song is dedicated to him, and it will likely be the only time you’ll ever hear me talk about any Country Rock music! From the genre that spilled out Lynyrd Skynyrd (ugh) came this pleasant love song from the Marshall Tucker Band, Heard It In A Love Song. Like yesterday’s song, this one is from a very specific era (for me, anyway). We moved to Pennsylvania in the summer of 1979, but my memories are always of cold weather, endless winters; cabin-fevered in that house, my brothers would play their albums, and this song was the stand out among the music. Mike had the album cover on his bedroom wall and I always loved the intricate script-work of the logo. To annoy my brothers, like they did to me consistently by making fun of Donna Summer and Olivia Newton-John, I’d sing the title incorrectly as 'Purdy little love song' and it would drive them nuts! Anyway, today is as good a day as any to let my brother Mike know that I love him and think about him every single time I hear this song. It makes me happy and reminds me of simpler times that, though at the time sucked, settle my soul and connect me to home. Also, it’s really a great classic rock love song.
