There was a street dance phenomena in the early eighties called break dancing. Amidst the hype, a few movies were released featuring break dancers battling it out to amazing music. Hence, presenting Breakin’… There’s No Stopping Us. As with a lot of the dance music I’ve posted about, please don’t search for the substance. That’s not what this is about. This is about a happy feeling, a breath of youth, a memory of inclusiveness and self-discovery. This is about becoming friends with my cousin Cristine as she entered her teens, and it’s about finding a community with her as the youngest misfits of our respective families. Sneaking around, hanging out with bad boys and driving around Hempstead Turnpike all hours of the night. Really great, very warm memories.
