Sex set to music: no one did it better than Prince. No one ever will again. And Erotic City is Prince 101; an introduction to the seduction. Prince WAS a revolution. He crossed all musical barriers with the subtext of sex in almost all of his songs. Erotic City is one of his earlier masterpieces, but I didn’t hear of it until a few years after I’d already partied like it was 1999. I think when his music dominated the airwaves and MTV, I discovered what else he’d been responsible for prior to his revolution. And I was on board for sure. I think the clean lyrics are 'we can funk until the dawn, makin’ love ‘til cherry’s gone' but we all know what he means. Let’s face it.
