The scratchy, earthy voice of Joan Osborne captured the populace with a song that provoked the Christians like poking a stick into a hornet’s nest, but from the same album, her debut, came a less popular, less played song, Right Hand Man, and that’s the one I love. It’s sexy and sexual, filled with overt messages, gritty vocals, sick accompaniment and, my favorite, a sax solo! This song was a treat as it played on one of the aforementioned 4-tracks at Structure in the Walt Whitman Mall. I’d rewind it continuously and crank it up just to piss off my co-workers. Well, except Michele who loved it like I did. Why this talented nineties goddess never made it huge is still beyond me. Her voice is unique and spectacular. Where is she now? Come back, Joan, we need you.
