Easy Lover

Pop star and funk genius band together in the height of the MTV era and magic happens. And if you know me at all, you KNOW I cannot resist a good duet. This one is at the top of my list of favorites. I…

You Take My Breath Away

Yesterday’s song spoke of a forever youth, and today’s song makes me feel that way all over again. It’s a beautiful, cheesy ballad sung by a seventies heart throb the likes of Andy Gibb and William Katt,…

Good Enough / I Will Remember You

Thanks to her advocacy for Animal Rights, when you hear a song by Sarah McLachlan you might cringe and immediately think of abused shelter animals shivering in the cold. And to that I say, GOOD, do…

Silly Love Songs

Living Legend. Rock Icon. Beatle. Paul. Paul Mc Cartney’s music has been, and will likely always continue to be, on all of my best-of lists. Silly Love Songs is this year’s entry and it does not disappoint.…

Don’t You Want Me

Her name was Amy and she was a friend who created moments and opened minds. She was the life of the party, but in a good way. She was literally friends with everybody; she could find common ground with…

Love Theme from Flashdance

Today’s song isn’t the first instrumental to pop up on the countdowns, punctuating the fact that many times the feeling a song brings me has nothing to do with the lyrics. If I can close my eyes and be…

September

Talk about a song that everyone can agree on as a happy, feel-good dance song! It’s the perfect party song, maybe even better than the ultimate wedding party song, Celebration by K&TG. Weirdly I don’t…

53 to 53Nov 13, 2018DAY 38

Jumper

There’s not much to be said about lead singer Stephan Jenkins’ voice, and overall Third Eye Blind’s catalogue of music is pretty mediocre and background filler to the era, but they had one song that…

53 to 53Nov 12, 2018DAY 39

Pale Shelter

And now it’s time for some kick-ass new wave! This is the first song I’d ever heard by Tears For Fears, and it was a sound like not much else I’d ever heard. This fact, coupled with the fact that my Linda…

Here Comes The Rain Again

It’s a warm and rainy night and the smell of wood burning permeates the downfall. I stand on the second floor porch and look out across the street to the campus beyond; as a woolgatherer, my mind conjures…

If You’re Out There / Someday

How do you describe the voice of John Legend? Pointed, unpretentious, sweet and brimming with the spirit of so many crooners from our past, except here he is, in the now. He sings about love and loss, just…

Hemorrhage In My Hand / Take A Picture

The new millennium started and music had changed. The leftover angst of grunge evolved into rock ballads with angry overtones featuring singers singing in a blistering shout to express their thoughts and…

Right Here / Dreams

Admittedly never a huge fan of Michael Jackson, I actually didn’t like Right Here by SWV when it was first all over the radio in 1992. But, like other songs on this list, the retrospective aspect of the…

Bring Me To Life

A new millennium brought a new sound, and it was called Evanescence. Kick-ass heavy rock with a lead vocalist whose sincerity was palpable. The year this song was all over the radio was another of the many…

La La

The late nineties and early ohs presented us with many progressive bands that had a similar feel to their angst-ridden sound. Not that that’s a bad thing; there’s something comforting in commonality. There…
